- 1). Clean off the toilet bowl's sewer mount, which protrudes from the wall. Use a putty knife to remove any construction debris, such as plaster, caulk or grout, that might have collected on top of the sewer pipe. These sewer pipes are designed to fit snugly into the rear of the bowl. Any foreign objects on top of the sewer pipe could prevent this.
- 2). Apply silicone grease to the surface of the sewer pipe. This will help the bowl fit more easily and help seal the connection.
- 3). Apply any gaskets needed to the rear of the bowl. Press the gasket against the gasket opening until it pops into place.
- 4). Have an assistant help you lift up the bowl and slide it onto the sewer inlet pipe. The bolts in the wall should line up with the holes in the base of the toilet.
- 5). Slip the washers and nuts over the bolts at the bowl base. Tighten the washers and nuts until they are hand-tight.
- 6). Tighten the bolts with an adjustable wrench or socket wrench to the specifications provided by the manufacturer.
- 7). Flush the toilet and check the bowl for leaks. Tighten the bowl bolts further, if needed.
