Nursing Careers You Can Choose From: RN, LPN, or CNA

Nursing careers have been in steadfast demands nowadays, especially when it entails high salaries, overflowing benefits, bonuses, chances of promotion, and vacation packages - all of which are so hard to resist. A lot of career opportunities lay ahead for prospective nursing students. Some roads lead to advanced nursing careers and financial contentment, while some are stepping stones towards that. Whichever you choose, you are sure to get one thing – a financially stable future that everyone dreams about. Among the many nursing and healthcare careers available, the three that are most popular these days are those of registered nurses (RN), licensed practical nurses (LPN), and certified nursing assistants (CNA).

Registered Nurse (RN) – Among the three nursing careers, RNs have the most extensive functions, which include prescribing medications (on selected states in the US), they work closely with physicians, and they usually supervise LPNs and CNAs. To obtain an RN Career Degree, you need to finish a 4 year nursing program and pass the nursing board exam. Some of the facilities that RNs can work at are clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, schools, and private companies. Presently, aside from ground school, an RN Career Degree can now also be obtained through online/distant studies.

Licenses Practical Nurse (LPN) – If RNs work closely with physicians or doctors, LPNs on the other hand, work closely with RNs and are often supervised by them. Among the many functions they have, included are caring for the disabled, as well assisting patients who are recovering from surgeries and illnesses. Since LPNs provide bedside care, they have the tendency to grow closer to patients than RNs. For you to become an LPN, you need to finish an LPN training program that usually lasts for one year and a half. Aside from community colleges, LPN careers online schooling is also now available for those individuals who want to study but does not have the time to go to colleges and universities (either because of work or family). After finishing an LPN program, you need to take and pass a licensing examination called the NCLEX or National Council Licensure Examination.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Out of the two nursing careers I mentioned, CNAs' responsibilities include directly caring for the patients. From the job name alone - nursing assistant, it's obvious that the primary role of CNAs is to assist nurses, as well as doctors. Assistance can both be caring for patients, and handing out instruments during surgery. Even though the training program for CNAs are much shorter than RNs and LPNs, their role in medical facilities cannot be considered as small, since they are very much needed for a medical facility to function well. Some of their functions include basic bedside assistance, such as feeding, bathing, personal grooming, and assisting patients in dressing and going to the bathroom. CNA careers education usually lasts for three to six months, and they are also available online, for the convenience of students who can't attend a ground school. Once training is completed, you will practice your CNA profession once you become certified.

All these nursing careers are all promising and financially rewarding. You can choose to become a CNA or LPN now, and become an RN later. If you’re up for the challenge, you can pursue an RN career degree [http://rncareer.org/] now. Learn more about it by clicking here.
