Shmoopy was adopted after we followed a newspaper ad for 'free to a good home siamese mix kittens.'
She was a beautiful little kitten of 8 weeks when we brought her home. Our other 2 cats didn't like her though. She was a loner and was terrified of people other than the 2 of us, but she loved to ride around the house on our shoulders and followed us around like a puppy for a couple of years. Then we noticed that her personality was changing and she became more solitary, and didn't even want to be touched or looked at.
Eventually, it seemed that she didn't recognize us, and she became hostile to the point of attacking us. When we spoke to the vet who was also the vet of her parents, he told us that she had been born to a brother and sister who had been left un-neutered and she was the 2nd generation inbred to brother and sister cats. The in-breeding took its toll, and there came a day when she was only 5 and a half years old that she mentally snapped, went insane and had to be put to sleep.
It broke our hearts that her last days were so filled with rage and fear. She's at peace now.
