- 1). Park the Chevy on a level surface. Secure the Chevy by blocking both sides of the rear wheels. Use a jack to raise the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands or blocks. Remove front wheel.
- 2). Remove the brake calipers by unscrewing the bleeder screws. Once these are released, compress the brake caliper pistons using slip-joint pliers. Maintain constant pressure to keep caliper held down. Tighten the bleeder screws. Remove the brake caliper bolts using a caliper bolt driver. Remove the caliper.
- 3). Remove the outer hub by taking out the bolts with a hub bolt driver. The small snap ring on the inner hub assembly can then be removed, along with the large locking ring. With a pair of needle-nose pliers, pull the hub out. Take out the retaining nut using the axle nut socket. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the keeper. Use the axle nut socket to remove the inner nut.
- 4). Slide the rotor off the axle. Keep the rotor level to avoid dropping the outer wheel bearing. Remove the nuts on the spindle and on the backing plate. With a hammer, gently tap on the spindle flange to remove the spindle.
- 5). Remove the cotter pins from the upper ball joint, lower ball joint, drag link joint and the drag link connection. With a ball joint separator, disconnect the drag link connection from the steering arm. Use the separator with a hammer to remove the upper and lower ball joints. Use the hammer to carefully tap on the snap rings that connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Remove the disconnected ball joints from the steering knuckle.
- 6). Detach the tie rod end by removing the cotter pin and bolt. Release the tie rod using a puller to separate it from the steering knuckle. Remove the two bolts from steering knuckle.
