- 1). Drive the front wheels of the lawn tractor onto wood blocks to create working room under the machine. Set the parking brake, chock the rear wheels and remove the key from the ignition switch. Raise the cutting deck to its highest setting using the handle on the right rear fender.
- 2). Put on a pair of heavy work gloves to protect your hands from the sharp cutting blades. Reach under the deck and lodge a wood block between one of the blades and the baffle at the center of the cutting deck to keep the blade from rotating when the retaining bolt is loosened.
- 3). Place a socket and ratcheting wrench over the center retaining bolt that holds the blade to the spindle. Twist the wrench in a counterclockwise direction to loosen the bolt. Finish removing the bolt by hand and lower the blade from the cutting deck.
- 4). Raise a new cutting blade into position on the spindle where the previous blade was removed. Ensure the blade is flush with the spindle and the word "bottom" embossed on the blade is facing the ground. Replace the center retaining nut and hand-tighten it.
- 5). Using a torque wrench, tighten the blade retaining bolt to 70-90 foot-pounds of torque.
- 6). Repeat the above steps for the other blade. Remove the wood block from the deck when finished.
- 7). Remove the wheel chocks and back the front wheels off the wood blocks.
