- 1). Turn on the TV by pressing the "ON" button on the DirecTV remote control.
- 2). Move the slider at the top of the remote from left to right to the setting of your choice. The "DirecTV" setting controls the DirecTV unit and menus, while "TV" is for directly controlling the connected TV. The "AV1" and "AV2" settings control the device connected on that equipment channel.
- 3). Press the "TV Input" button to switch between different input channels, such as a video game console that's connected to your TV.
- 4). Use the DVR controls, which are located near the top of the remote directly below the equipment slider. Most of the controls work like a DVD player, where you can stop, pause and play a recorded program. There's also a replay button that lets you go back a few seconds in the live or recorded show.
- 5). Press the "Record" button to start recording a live program or one you've selected from the DirecTV program guide.
- 6). Press the "Guide" button to see what programs, including TV shows and movies, you can watch on your DirecTV box. Once you find a program, press the "Select" button.
- 7). Press the "VOL" controls up or down to increase or decrease the TV's volume.
- 8). Press the "CHNL" controls up or down to move between DirecTV channels.
- 9). Press the "EXIT" button to leave the program guide.
