- 1). Turn off electricity to the old exterior fixture at the house circuit box.
- 2). Climb a stepladder at the existing light fixture and remove the screws that hold the fixture in place, using a screwdriver. Disconnect the wires above it by untwisting the wire caps that hold them together. Discard the fixture.
- 3). Find the mounting bracket for your new Hampton Bay outdoor light fixture. Set the bracket against the electrical box, lining up the screw holes. Insert the screws that came with the bracket. Tighten.
- 4). Loop the bare copper ground wire from the electrical box around the green grounding screw that's on the mounting bracket. Tighten.
- 5). Set the Hampton Bay light on the top of the stepladder so you can access the wiring between the light and the box. Connect the white wire from the light to the white wire from the box by twisting a wire cap over the two wire ends. Seal the connection in electrician's tape.
- 6). Connect the black wires from the box and the light to each other in the same manner.
- 7). Set the light fixture up to the electrical box, pushing the wires into the box as you do. Hold the fixture against the mounting bracket and align the screw holes between the light and the bracket. Thread in the provided screws to mount the light.
- 8). Put a bulb in the light and turn on the electricity. Test the light at the wall switch that controlled the previous fixture. If it works, install the light cover as instructed in the directions.
