I found this campground by accident. The campground we were going to was all full, and the camp host suggested Lake Rabun. We tent camp there in June, July and October.
Describe your camping trip:
We have been camping there for about six years now. All the sites are well maintained, not too close together and there is an ample supply of sites - primitive, with electric and camper hook-ups.
All the areas have rest rooms close by with running water, and the main camp post has a bath house with showers and hot water. Every time we have camped, the weather has been good. It does get hot, but it is not unbearable and since it is in a temperate zone, it does rain frequently during the summer season, but it certainly does not detract from the experience. The lake is directly across from the campground and is certainly one of the most beautiful lakes we have been on. The fishing was great, the scenery was beautiful and it was not a crowded lake at all. In the fall, the scenery is to die for and the weather was very refreshing after a long hot summer. It can be cold in late fall, so be prepared for it.
Pros: The sites were good sized, not too close together and close to bathrooms and showers. The campground is not far from area attractions - Helen, Dillard, Tallulah Gorge and white water rafting on the Chattooga River (a must do).
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
Nearby attractions: Helen, Dillard House, Chattooga white water rafting, Tallulah Gorge.
Further comments: A true gem of a campground. This has become our family tradition each summer and fall.
