- 1). Turn off your iPod and insert the tip of your plastic case opener tool in the seam where the front and back halves of the iPod meet.
- 2). Work your way around each side of the iPod with the pry tool until the two halves separate. Be careful as the two halves are still connected via a thin orange headphone jack cable.
- 3). Unplug the headphone jack cable from its port in the rear half of the iPod.
- 4). Place the two halves face-down on a work surface. Most of the device's internal components are in the front half, and at this point, you can remove and replace any components you need.
