- 1). Confirm your eligibility to enroll in a GED program. Most educational facilities require all students to be at least 16 years old and a resident of their respective state. Regardless of your age, you must not be currently enrolled in any diploma program. If you're between the ages of 16 and 18 years old, some schools require students to provide a school withdrawal verification letter, a notarized consent form to take the GED that is signed by a parent or guardian, and two forms of identification.
- 2). Contact the educational facility and inquire about the steps needed to register for the online GED program. Some institutions require students to complete an application online, while others offer it on-campus.
- 3). Register for the GED preparation classes. Some schools offer these basic education classes in math, science, language arts, social studies and writing free of charge, while others might charge a fee.
- 4). Complete online training. Some schools offer training through a variety of methods, including over the phone, by email or at a designated GED lab on-campus. The site coordinator might also administer a GED pre-test to assess your areas of strengths and weaknesses in each subject area. The pre-test results focus on the areas of improvement needed to master each subject. Although each program varies by site, you will receive further instructions on how to continue the GED program after completing any prerequisite tasks or assessments.
