- 1). Open the hood to access the fuse/relay panel behind the battery. Open the panel and locate the relay for the fuel pump. Pull the relay out by hand.
- 2). Start the truck engine. Allow it to idle until it stalls to depressurize the fuel system.
- 3). Crawl under the truck on the driver side by the front door. Locate the fuel filter, which is mounted underneath the vehicle and is shaped like a cylinder with a fuel line running out of each side.
- 4). Unscrew the outlet line of the fuel filter by placing an open-end wrench on the fuel line nut. Hold the stationary nut on the filter with a second wrench. Pull the fuel line off the filter. Repeat this procedure for the inlet line of the fuel filter.
- 5). Unbolt the mounting bracket securing the filter to the truck with a socket wrench. Remove the used filter. Slide the new filter into the mounting bracket and tighten the bracket to the truck with the socket wrench.
- 6). Insert the outlet line into the fuel filter. Screw in the nut by hand to prevent cross threading. Tighten it with the open-end wrench. Hold the stationary nut on the filter with the extra wrench to ensure the filter does not turn with the nut. Repeat this procedure for the inlet line.
- 7). Insert the relay back into the fuse panel. Close the fuse panel box.
- 8). Start the truck engine and check for filter leaks. Allow the truck to run for five minutes to circulate fuel through the fuel lines.
- 9). Turn the truck engine off. Close the hood.
