- According to Loyola University Health System's water safety tips, the water in a pool should be 12 feet deep in order to have a diving board. This is recommended in order to prevent injuries, especially head and spinal cord injuries.
- Deep water will not prevent all injuries from diving. There are other safety precautions that should be followed, including employing proper diving technique and banning flips, somersaults and diving off of the side of the diving board. Adult supervision is required at all times.
- In addition to ensuring the proper depth of the water, other safety precautions should be established. And there should always be adult supervision for children around water.
