- 1). Open the hood for access to the battery. Park a secondary vehicle in front of the van. Open the secondary vehicle's hood for access to its battery. Turn the vehicle off.
- 2). Apply jumper cables by attaching the red and black cables to the van's battery. The red goes on the positive and the black goes on the negative. The positive will be identified by a "+" symbol in front of the terminal. The negative is the remaining terminal.
- 3). Apply the other end of the jumper cables to the secondary vehicle. Red on positive and black on negative.
- 4). Start the secondary vehicle. Allow it to idle for a few minutes.
- 5). Start the van and allow it to idle for 15 minutes to charge the battery. Carefully remove the jumper cables from both vehicles. Do not allow the clamps to touch. Turn the secondary car off and close the hood. Once the van has run for a while, turn the van off and allow it to sit for an hour. Attempt to crank the van to ensure the battery is holding a charge.
