- 1). Draw the arch design you wish onto a sheet of plywood. Use a ruler to ensure the vertical sides of the arch are straight. Erase your line if you are not happy with it and try again until the drawn on arch is exactly how you will like it. For the purpose of this design, make the drawn-on arch 1.5 inches wide all the way around.
- 2). Cut out the drawn arch along the line using a jig saw.
- 3). Trace the cut out arch onto the second sheet of plywood then cut it out to create two identical arch frames.
- 4). Determine the depth to which you would like to build your arch, then cut a number of 2-inch by 4-inch planks to this length. Determine the spacing of the planks to calculate the number of them you will need. Use a circular saw to cut the planks to ensure straight square cuts.
- 5). Nail through one plywood arch and into the end of one of the planks cut in Step 4, then place the other plywood arch template on the other side and nail though it into the other end of the planks. Continue this step around the arch at the spacing you had selected until the arch is suitably surrounded with planks to hold it together.
- 6). Paint or stain the arch as you like to have it fit in aesthetically to the surroundings.
