- 1). Cut back to half the amount of water you give the arborvitae in September. This assists the tree in hardening off -- a way to get it ready for winter.
- 2). Water the arborvitae as you did during the growing season in October and continue until the first freeze.
- 3). Spray the arborvitae's foliage with an anti-transpirant in early November. This product forms a barrier on the leaves to keep winds from drying them out. Follow label instructions and ensure you hit both sides of the foliage to ensure adequate protection.
