How to Make Stick Fences

    • 1). Cut your one-inch-thick branches to the same length with pruning shears. You may choose any length you like, though anything over three feet may make it difficult to reach your plants. Sharpen one end of each branch to a point with your utility knife.

    • 2). Pound each branch vertically into the ground with your rubber mallet. Place each branch at least six inches from your outermost plants and space them no more than one foot from each other. Drive them about six inches into the ground.

    • 3). Begin at one corner of your garden and weave a ¼-inch-thick pliable branch in and out of your upright branches, starting about one inch from the ground. When your first branch runs out, lay the end of a second branch over the end of the first and continue weaving. Do this at the corners, as well.

    • 4). Weave a second row about ½ inch above the first, alternating weaving patterns. If you started your first row weaving over the first branch and under the second, weave your second row under the first and over the second. This gives the fence stability. Weave this way to the tops of your branches.
