- 1). Locate the cable that was included in the original iPod packaging.
- 2). Insert the USB side into the appropriate USB slot on the computer.
- 3). Ensure the computer is on and not in hibernate or standby modes as the iPod will not charge. If the computer is portable, leave the lid open and operating on a full battery or plugged into an electrical socket. If the battery is depleted and the computer turns off, the iPod will not charge.
- 4). Plug the other end of the cable into the port on the iPod. For the iPod Touch, iPod Nano and iPod Classic, the port is on the bottom of the device and is approximately an inch long. The cable for the iPod Shuffle will plug into the headphone port.
- 5). Look at the upper right corner of the device. If the device is charging, the battery symbol will display a lightning bolt.
- 1). Attach the included cord into the included USB power adapter.
- 2). Plug the power adapter into an electrical socket.
- 3). Attach the other end of the cord into the port on the iPod. The port on the iPod Touch, Nano and Classic is roughly an inch in length and appears on the bottom of the device. Plug the other end of cord into the headphone port on the Shuffle.
- 4). Ensure the iPod is charging by checking the battery symbol on the upper right corner of the screen. A lightning bolt will appear to indicate the device is charging.
- 1). Purchase a power cord for the appropriate iPod model. The supported models appear on the packaging. If you do not choose the appropriate cord, it may not work for your device.
- 2). Plug the cord into the cigarette lighter port or power outlet in the vehicle.
- 3). Insert the other end of the cord into the port on the iPod.
- 4). Glance at the top right corner of the screen to ensure the battery symbol changes to indicate the device is charging.
