- 1). Start the engine. Set the digital volt/ohm meter to measure D/C volts. Locate the MAF sensor. On both the 4.0 liter V-6 and 5.0 liter V-8 engines, the MAF sensor is located on top of the air filter housing.
- 2). Back-probe the electrical connector (push the test leads from the meter into the electrical connector from the wire side of the connector) at the two wires marked "A" and "B" on the vehicle's wiring harness. A minimum of 10.5 volts is needed for the MAF to function properly. If the voltage is low, charge the battery. If the voltage is 0 volts, check the power circuit from the on-board computer.
- 3). Back-probe the electrical connector at the wires marked "C" and "D" on the electrical connector. If the voltage is between .34 volts and 1.96 volts, the MAF is functioning properly. If there is no voltage, or the voltage is out of range, replace the MAF sensor.
