Bedding

• A comfortable, cozy place to sleep is vital to include in your ferret's cage. Put some bedding, such as blankets, hammocks and nest boxes, into the cage. You can make nest boxes by cutting a hole in the end of a cardboard box, or creating them with safe wood or plastic. If you have more than one pet ferret in the cage, make sure to provide each pet with bedding that it enjoys.
  
  

Variety of Toys

• Play tubes for tunneling, hard plastic blocks and plastic tubs, either empty for wrestling and play or filled with leaves, paper balls and other small ferret toys, are ideal toys to put in the cage. Other suitable items are toys that ferrets can chase, such as toys which makes noises when moved, as these encourage the ferret's natural hunting instinct.
  
  

Things to Chew

• Ferrets love to chew, and putting appropriate chew items into your ferret cage is sure to keep it occupied and out of trouble. Make sure to provide your ferret with chew things which are suitable for ferrets, as allowing it to nibble on fabrics, stuffed animals or the cage bars can cause damage to its teeth.
  
  

Rearrange Often

• When a ferret gets used to the same environment every day, he can quickly become bored. Ensure that you frequently change and rotate the items available to your ferret in his cage, such as bedding and toys, so that it is kept stimulated. Do not make this a consistent routine, however, but instead do it at random intervals or else it will expect it and it will lose the excitement. If your cage has adjustable shelves, you can even rearrange the layout of your ferret's home, so that he always has new places to explore.
