- 1). Cut the two-by-fours in half so you have eight four-foot pieces. Take two and nail them together so they form an "X" shape, repeat that process with two more to make a matching "X."
- 2). Take one of your boards and nail it across the bottom of one of the "X" shapes. Repeat the process with your other "X" so that you have matching pieces. To do this, stand the "X" shapes against a wall or have a helper hold them up for you so that they are vertical and the board you nail onto the bottom is horizontal. The board will connect the bottom two legs of the "X."
- 3). Connect the two "X" shapes with another board, perpendicular to the one across the bottom of the "X" shapes. Put the final board opposite that one across the back of the jig. You will end up with the two "X" shapes standing vertically with a box horizontally on the ground. Secure all the pieces together with nails.
- 4). Lay your logs in the "V" created by the tops of the two "X" shapes. The "V" will keep the logs in place. The sides should be approximately 36 inches apart so you can cut pieces down the middle and have come out 16 to 18 inches long.
