- 1). Evaluate the health of your herd. Take a good look at each animal and access both its overall health and what it adds to your herd. Consider their pedigree as well, and what the animal might add to the herd as a breeder.
- 2). Write a plan for your herd. Before you can decide which animals to cull, you need to know what your goals are. Do you want to breed more, sell some younger goats or butcher those goats that don't fit your dairy or breeding needs?
- 3). Choose which animals don't fit your herd needs. If you're judging baby goats, give them time to grow before making final decisions as they may become exactly what you need for your herd.
- 4). Cull the chosen goats by butchering them or offering them for sale. What doesn't work for your herd may be just what someone else needs for theirs. Take out classified ads or advertise the goats you have for sale at your local feed store.
