Exercising is great and when you are in the moment if feels fantastic.
You feel you could continue forever at that pace but that is unrealistic.
Sometimes we do over exercise.
Sometimes we do push our bodies over that fine line of healthy exercise and over doing it.
Over exercising can have many consequences.
The first is that it drains your energy reserves.
It makes us irritable and difficult to focus and stay centered.
It can lead to injury or worse illness.
So here are the signs to watch out for when you are exercising.
Monitor your pulse - If you exercise daily, get into the habit of taking your pulse first thing in the morning.
I learned this technique from Jeff Galloway's training programs and books on running.
Keep a little journal or tab near your bed or on the kitchen fridge and write down your daily pulse.
When it increases over 20% you need to back off.
Take note of your moods - Mood swings, irritability are also signs of having exercised too much.
If you can seem to laugh as much as you usually do, that's a flag going up to say you're depleting your reserves.
Notice your body's signals - As you over do it, your body will start to give you subtle hints that it needs some rest.
I know that I find my throat starts to feel tight, like it's a little strained.
Also, I find I'm really thirsty or that I might be getting some mouth sores.
Everyone reacts differently.
What are the first signs that you could be 'coming down' with something? Restless Sleep - Also, if you are over doing it in your workout, just like any other kind of stress, it will begin to affect your sleep.
If you wake up not feeling rested or if you notice your night being quite restless, it's a sign that you're working out too much or too hard.
Exercise is great.
Not only just in moderation.
You can ramp up the pace at times, and there will be times you want to prepare for a competition or a race.
But it's important to observe what else is going on in your life because all activities, all creativity and all emotions need your precious energy supply.
When you over do it exercising, you'll pay the price in other areas of your life: your health, your relationships and your ability to produce and create.
