- 1). Visit a blog hosting website, such as www.blog.com, www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com in order to make an account and to set up your blog. Most standard blogs cost nothing, but you may pay fees for additional services.
- 2). Follow the steps for creating the account. At the very least, you will enter in your email address and designate a password for your account. The blogging website may send a confirmation email to your address to confirm that you are the owner of the account. Therefore, you may need to click on a link from an email to activate your blog account.
- 3). Log into your blog account and familiarize yourself with the tools and templates available for you to use when creating your blog. Check out the color schemes and picture options that you can incorporate into your blog.
- 4). Name your blog. The name of your blog should summarize the theme or point of your site. Think about what kinds of topics you will write about on your blog: politics, bicycling, camping around the world, local cuisine or photography. You may want to have an eclectic site with a variety of topics, so you may want to simply name your blog "Mary's Blog" or "Tom's Blog."
- 5). Create the web address for your blog, and the hosting website will check for its availability. For an additional fee, you can purchase a customized web address without the ".wordpress.com" or ".blogspot.com" extension.
- 6). Create a profile and enter information such as your name, a short biography or a picture. Customize what you want your viewers to read about you. Hide information that you would not want to share, such as your real name or email address.
- 7). Build your blog by choosing a template and color scheme that fit your blog's style and theme. Customize how your blog entries will appear once you post and how you want to archive past blogs. You can typically archive by month; therefore, your daily entries will probably archive automatically after one month.
- 8). Write your first post on your blog. Because it is your blog, you can write whatever you want. You may want to jump right in and start blogging about your hobbies, travels or painting projects. Or, you may want to write a post that introduces your blog by outlining your objectives for making the site.
- 9). Continue posting on a regular basis to keep your blog content fresh and appealing to your audience. In time, you may begin to acquire "followers," who are visitors who read your content frequently.

Add pages to your blog so that your entire site looks and functions like a regular website. The blog becomes one page of many others, such as "about me" or "history of (your topic)" pages.
