How Easy Is A Home Security System To Use

How Easy Is A Home Security System To Use?

Have you ever wondered 'how easy is a home security system to use'? Well, you're not alone. This is one of the top 10 frequently asked questions we hear everyday.

Home security systems have come a long way in the past few years, but, consumers still want to know how easy is a home security system to use. After all, if you're going to invest in a system to keep you safe and secure, you want to be able to use it quickly and easily, right. In order to control any security system there has to be a controller or keypad.

Traditional keypads are similar to the dial pad of a phone; they have numbers 0 - 9 and a few programmable, fixed feature buttons. To use your home security system with these keypads, you must enter your 4 digit user code and then the code for the function you want to enable, such as Arm to turn the system on. To turn it off, you must enter your 4 digit code and the code to Disarm. So you can see that while it is easy, you must know which code and buttons to push to get the system to operate as you require.

In contrast, newer wireless home security systems, as well as new controllers for hardwire security systems have incorporated icons, similar to those on smartphones. With these you simply touch the icon to activate the function you require, such as Arm, enter your user code and the system is on. To turn it off, you touch the icon to Disarm, enter your user code and the system is off.

Touchscreen systems can also be programmed for even easier use. For example, we can program the system to Arm without requiring the user code when the Arm icon is touched. Adding users is also quick and easy with these touchscreen controllers. There is no need to know what position the next user needs to go in. Deleting users is also fast and easy.

Remote Access
Technology also allows us to have remote access and control our home security system from most smartphones, tablets and computers. You can check the status of your system to ensure it is in the Arm condition. If it wasn't set before the last person left, the touch of an icon will remotely initiate the Arm condition and the change in status will be displayed on your phone.

In addition to checking and controlling your home security system this way, you can also receive notification of events via email, text or both. An event is any condition that is sensed by the system, such as Arm, Disarm, Alarm, Low Battery, Tamper, Sensor Alarm and much, much more.

So, for example, if you want to know when your system is Disarmed, you can be notified of this change in condition. By assigning each user a unique user code, you will also immediately know which family member turned the system off and at what time. This is a great comfort for parents who have children coming home before they get home. Many customers use their smartphone or tablets to control their systems even when they are home. This is especially helpful if there isn't a controller in the master bedroom.

Technology has simplified almost every aspect of our lives. Home security systems are so easy to use that even young children and effectively operate them. Well, that shouldn't be a surprise since it's usually our young children that teach the adults how to use technology. Maybe it's better said that home security systems are so easy to use that even adults can do it.
