It is every citizen's right to support their candidate for public office.
It's good to see citizens getting together in the political process rather than sitting behind the scenes in angry protests, riots, or demonstrations.
We've obviously seen a lot of that lately in cities around the world, especially in the Middle East.
Therefore, it goes without saying that any movie star that has a particular candidate they'd like to support, they are welcome to throw their celebrity status, and Facebook friends and following, in support of that candidate.
There's nothing wrong with that.
Of course, if a celebrity pushes the wrong candidate, or goes against the wishes of the citizens, or their biggest fans, they will lose notoriety, Popularity, and they will find people who once supported them in their acting career leaning away.
As you know, it was quite popular for Hollywood and big entertainers as well as anyone in the media to support Barack Obama when he ran for president.
Unfortunately some of those rather prominent celebrities have severely hurt their own brand name in hindsight.
Take Oprah for instance, her network has suffered, and there are people who will not watch her shows anymore, and although she is retiring, she didn't go out on the high note she might have.
I know that some folks are upset and won't watch her on TV anymore, because I am one of those folks.
It's not that I was ever a big follower of her TV shows, it's more like I respected what she was doing with her "book club" and philanthropy, I thought she was a great lady until she got so heavy into the political scene.
Right now we see other celebrities backing away from their support of Barack Obama in name, endorsement, and also campaign contributions.
Therefore I have something to ask; "Are Hollywood movie stars only supporting candidates when it is popular to do so?" If all of this is just a popularity contest, and they were jumping on the bandwagon of Obama's popularity, trying to boost their own, or using that synergy for their own good, then one needs to ask if they were endorsing him because they believed in his abilities, or if they were just going with the flow of popularity due to the $750 million that the campaign to elect Barack Obama had spent in the media.
So, should Americans be grateful to Hollywood or disgusted with their behavior and their politics? That's it was a good question isn't it? Should we hold Hollywood accountable for helping to elect Barack Obama? Should we boycott Hollywood movies, and the celebrities who put this gentleman up on a pedestal? Obviously, they've already paid in a diminishment of their popularity, as Barack Obama's poll numbers are well under even the worst predictions of the political analysts right now.
Now then, that doesn't mean that he won't come out and make some more good speeches, or throw 100s of millions of dollars at his reelection campaign, and that his popularity won't improve.
As we get closer to the election in 2012, that is sure to happen, and as his popularity grows slightly - will Hollywood come out of the woodwork again and endorsing him? If they do, can we really trust them, can we trust anything they say, after all we already know they are actors? Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
