Your walls are painted in the perfect color, you have beautiful curtains hanging on your windows, the perfect decorative accents adorn your shelves, and your furniture is beautiful; but something still seems off with the look of your home. You can't quite put your finger on what it is. Take a look down, below your feet. Maybe it's the floors. The floors of your home are something you probably don't pay much attention to, other than cleaning them. However, their appearance can have a huge impact on the way that your home looks. If they are old, outdated or damaged, no matter how much you try to improve the look of the house, something is always going to be off. Breathe some new life into your home with new flooring. But, choosing the type of flooring you are going to have installed can be a difficult decision to make. There are so many different options available, so how you do you choose the best material for your home? Consider your taste, your budget and the space you are resurfacing the floors in when making your decision. And, read on to find out about some of the most common types of flooring products.

Popular Flooring Types

There are so many different types of flooring available. Some are chosen for their durability, while others are chosen because they create a warm and comfortable feeling. Whether you're looking for something that is easy to care for, or something that is comfortable to walk on, here are some great options to consider.

Carpeting. Obviously, carpeting is one of the most common types of flooring installed in homes. It has been popular for decades, and for good reason; it creates a soft and plush surface to walk on, and it warms up a room, making it feel welcoming and cozy. There are several different types of carpeting available, from Berber to shag, and the type you choose for your home depends on the look you are trying to create, and the use of the room. For example, a durable Berber is a good option in children's rooms, playrooms and spaces that get a lot of traffic. In a bedroom, a shag carpet can create a super plush surface to put your feet on you first wake up in the morning. A word of caution when choosing carpeting for your home: Avoid installing it in rooms where a lot of water is used. For example, carpeting isn't ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms. All carpets are absorbent, which could lead to mold and mildew.

Hardwood Flooring. Another very popular type of flooring is the hardwood. It's beautiful, it's durable and it comes in a wide range of colors and finishes. Common types of wood used for this flooring include maple, birch, pine, oak, cherry, hickory and beech. Hardwood creates a timeless look that can easily suit any type of d©cor. However, just be mindful; although this material is durable, it does require maintenance. Sealing and staining is necessary every few years in order to keep it in great shape.

Ceramic Tile. For bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and other spaces where a lot of water is present, ceramic tile is a great option. It is waterproof, so you don't have to worry about absorption, or the development of mold or mildew. It comes in a variety of styles and colors, and can feature different finishes, including matted, glazed, textured and embossed.

Laminate. If you want to create the look of hardwood, but you don't want to spend the money, try laminate. This material is very durable, resisting burns and scratches, and it's a much more affordable option than hardwood. It's an excellent choice for those high traffic areas.
