These bowls are handmade by Joseph Schmidt Confections. Mr. Schmidt himself explained to us how they are done: first white chocolate is carefully tempered, then colored chocolate is added and swirled decoratively. A balloon is blown up and the bottom is dipped in the white chocolate. After it hardens, it is dipped in a thick layer of dark chocolate to reinforce it. Once both layers are solid, the balloon is popped and removed, and the top of the bowl is trimmed evenly.

The results are gorgeous bowls that are as smooth and shiny as glass.
