Definition:
A blue watch is another term for a severe thunderstorm watch. In the development of storm watches and warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings are blue or red to indicate the presence of a possible tornado. Severe thunderstorms do not necessarily produce tornadoes, so there is often a decision making process with forecasters to issue a red (tornadic) or blue (non-tornadic) watch. If the watch issued in the forecast has the strong possibility of a tornado, it becomes a red watch.
