The angel Gabriel blows his trumpet from up on high, and its seven tones are what liberates man from his earthly limitations. A cross on the banner reminds us of the balance of forces. Below, naked figures stand in coffins, floating along the river of the unconscious mind, awaiting the freedoms that knowledge will bring. Far in the distance, snow-capped mountains lie, as the heights of thought and creativity.
This is the card that reminds us that by arising from the tombs of our own boundaries, we can achieve greatness and freedom.
The Judgment card indicates a life lived to its fullest, someone who has taken all the necessary steps on their journey to advancement. It indicates awakening and renewal, on spiritual, emotional and physical levels. It can also represent positive legal judgments. This card shows a change in personal perception, and a new ability to blend with the greater surroundings.
In addition to a change in perception, this card can also indicate a huge decision-making process. Is there something that's important to you, which you've been waffling around on and unable to commit to one way or the other? It's "go time." Make your choice - it may be a big deal to you, but that doesn't mean it necessarily is important to others. This decision may have a huge impact on your life, so quit wasting time, and move forward.
Of note, when the Judgment card appears in the future position in a spread, it can often mean that something big is going to happen which will influence your decision.
Have you been on the fence, unsure which way to go? Well, something is coming that will give you the kick that you need in order to turn one way or the other.
Reversed, Judgment is a sign of weakness and fear of commitment. It shows a failure to find happiness, in part due to a lack of effort or readiness. It may also indicate losses, such as loss of material possessions, or the end of a marriage or relationship.
In many readings, the Judgment card will appear next to other cards that modify its meaning slightly. For instance, Judgment paired with the Lovers can indicate that a marriage, or other committed relationship is about to be solidified. On the other hand, when this card shows up in tandem with the Hermit, it's often a sign that the breakup you've been considering needs to happen... and it will be followed by a very satisfactory and rewarding period in which you can focus on your own happiness and dreams.
