- 1). Install motion-detecting water sprinklers near your patio area. Because raccoons are nocturnal, you may not see them during daytime. At nighttime, when they try to enter your patio, the motion detector senses them, sets off the sprinklers and scares them away.
- 2). Hang up motion-detecting sensor lights on the outside of your home. When raccoons attempt to get on your patio, their movements are detected, and the bright light turns on and scares them off.
- 3). Remove all raccoon attractants from your property. Keep pet food indoors, because raccoons may eat it; remove bird feeders from your patio area at nighttime, because the seeds in the feeders makes a good meal to hungry raccoons; move garbage cans away from your patio area and keep their lids shut with belts or latches, so raccoons can't open them; pick up fruit fallen from fruit trees; and avoid leaving woodpiles on your patio, because raccoons may decide to den under or in the pile.
- 4). Set up an electronic or battery-operated pest repelling device to keep raccoons away. The pest repeller uses ultrasonic sound that humans can't hear. The high-pitched sound is unpleasant to raccoons and keeps them off your patio.
- 5). Spray coyote urine around the parameter of your patio. The scent of the predator scares the raccoon and discourages it from entering your patio area. Reapply the urine every two days, in case the raccoon dares to return.
