- 1). Pull up the some of the liquid into the pipette.
- 2). Measure out one drop of the liquid onto the surface and record the volume of the drop in milliliters. One milliliter equals 1 cubic centimeter (cm^3).
- 3). Measure the height of the drop and widest diameter of the drop, both in centimeters, using the caliper.
- 4). Plug the radius (r = diameter/2), height (h) and volume (V) into the equation for a truncated sphere: V = (pi * r^3)/6 *(3 tangent(theta/2) + tangent(theta/2)^3). Solve for theta, the contact angle.
