- 1). Set up an appointment with an eye doctor to obtain a prescription for eyeglasses. Fill your prescription to purchase the eyeglasses. If you don't need glasses, visit your local grocery store or specialty shop to purchase a pair of glasses or a pair of sunglasses. Specialty shops often sell novelty glasses and you can find a pair that would be right for you in these stores. Use your own glasses if you already have them.
- 2). Decide where you want to buy your gold chain. Most grocery or drugstores will sell gold chains specifically for glasses. You can find them in the pharmacy area of your local grocery store or in an aisle of the store where glasses and accessories are on display. You can also buy gold chains for glasses at online retailers. Specialty stores often have web sites and you can check out what kind of gold chains they sell for all kinds of eye wear.
- 3). Remove the chain from the packaging and remove any plastic ties or items looping the chain together. For some packages, the chains are loose. Some chains are also sold hanging from cardboard coverings. Once you have removed the packaging from the chain, hold it out to examine. Look at the chain carefully to make sure it is not clumped up or broken. Carefully run your hand over the chain to straighten it out and smooth any areas clumped together.
- 4). Hold the chain up around your neck to determine that it is a good fit. Check in the mirror to see if the chain sags too low or too high when you hold the loop ends up to eye level. When you are satisfied with the length and fit, place the chain onto your lap or table. Hold your glasses up with the temples folded out. Fit the loop on the gold chain over the temple and move it along to rest against the strap of the glasses. Repeat with the other loop.
