- 1). Click the VCS Diamond desktop icon to launch the application.
- 2). Click the "Comparator" button on the control panel.
- 3). Click "Add." This makes an import dialog box pop up.
- 4). Click "Browse" and use the browser interface to locate the audio file of the person's voice you intend to imitate.
- 5). Type the name of the person into the text box. This enables the VCS comparator tool to recall the settings configured at this stage if you want to imitate the same function in future.
- 6). Click "Import." This enables the VSC comparator to analyze the audio and make an authentic audio copy.
- 7). Type the phrase you wish the voice to say in the second text box. For example, "Hi Brian, it's your old pal Dustin Hoffman. I just wanted to say happy birthday." Typing in the text provides a backup in case your own audio recording is inaudible to the VCS software.
- 8). Click"Record" and say the phrase exactly as you typed it. This is where you get to determine the phrasing and intonation. For example, if you want "Dustin" to emphasize "happy birthday," say that part loudest. For best results, speak in a manner as close to the selected voice as possible.
- 9). Click "Auto." This tells the comparator tool to analyze your voice against the imported recorded. It will compare the volume peaks of your voice to determine a target volume. It will also measure the frequency and timbre of the two voices to create a composite. The result, in theory, should be a convincing vocal composite.
