Dogs Are Life Affirming

Dogs give us energy when we're down, and when they greet us after a long absence.
And isn't there something special about a dog waiting for you to walk through the door after work? We know how much of a difference pets make in the lives of seniors living at home.
We're well aware that those in nursing homes feel better when a dog is brought to visit with them.
Dogs are great companions, even someone else's dog.
I've taken care of other people's dogs while they've been away.
It's fun to do that, to learn about the personality of the dog, to see how well you and the dog can get on.
You can't take the place of the dog's master but you can be a companion while the master is away.
One of the big problems of taking over a dog is making sure the dog doesn't get away from you.
Nothing is more embarrassing than saying you'll take responsibility for the dog and then that happens.
I just managed to avoid it three years ago.
I was looking after a large black standard poodle - another beautiful dog.
I'd taken the dog for a walk to a large area where the dog could run off leash.
Snow was everywhere and it wasn't easy to get around.
The dog was more sure-footed than I was and began to wander further and further away.
I wasn't sure whether the dog would come back to me.
Eventually he did.
For one thing he knew where his home was so he was unlikely to go far.
Besides that, the outside temperature was very cold.
So on the one hand it was great to be with the dog, but on the other, how would I feel if I'd lost him? Fortunately it turned out fine.
Meeting your dog again after a long vacation is especially fun to witness; more so if the dog has been away from home as well.
You watch as the dog rediscovers home, all the places remembered, all the smells that humans aren't aware of.
Once it's all been checked out it's neat to see the dog settle in a basket and know that they truly are home.
It's a routine I always feel a small part of, and think what a privilege it is.
If you're looking for a dog, or you're a breeder with a dog for sale, Pet Match Park offers a friendly atmosphere where customers and breeders can interact with one another one on one.
