- Decade parties, such as 80's themed parties, have become very popular in recent years. If you're looking for a costume, you probably don't need to look much further than your own closet (or basement, or attic). Think bright colors and big hair. Wear leggings with leg warmers and sneakers. Cut the neck off of a brightly colored, baggy t-shirt. Belt the shirt around your waist. Throw a scrunchy around your wrist and don a headband.
- Flapper or 1920's costumes are simple to create out of a few items in your closet. Use a simple "little black dress" as a base. Pair the dress with fishnet stockings and a garter. Wear Mary Jane shoes. Add a boa if you've got one. Slick back your hair into finger waves. Finish the look with thick foundation and bright red lipstick.
- The musical "Hair" made the hippie look iconic. Today, if you want to costume yourself like a member of the tribe, pull a pair of comfortable, preferably loose or bell bottom jeans from your closet. Wear a peasant top and lots of necklaces. Vintage jewelry, earth tones and peace signs are ideal. Straighten your hair and part it in the middle, or frame your face with a braid on the side.
- For the bottom, you can use Bermuda shorts or tapered jeans. Either way, this should look as unflattering as possible. Wear a polo tee or bright baggy button-down shirt. Pair sandals with tall white socks. Hang an old camera -- a Polaroid is great -- around your neck and carry a map with you. This is an androgynous look and works for both men and women.
