How to Fix Pavers

    • 1). Use your trowel to dig up the sand around the sides of any broken, cracked or sunken pavers. Place the trowel underneath each paver and lift it to remove it from the area. Use your level to check the pavers surrounding the problem area to make sure that they are all level. Remove any surrounding pavers that are not level.

    • 2). Using your shovel, add sand to the entire area where the pavers were removed. Use a small hand tamper to tamp down the sand. Continue adding sand to the area and tamping it down until it reaches the same level as the surrounding sand.

    • 3). Begin placing new pavers into the sand following the pattern of the surrounding pavers. Tap down each paver into place using your rubber mallet. Place your level onto each paver in the area to check the alignment. Add or remove the sand under a paver to make it level with the pavers surrounding it when necessary.

    • 4). Pour sand over the newly installed pavers and any surrounding area that needs more sand to fill the joints. Sweep the sand into the joints and gently water the area with your hose. Repeat this process until all joints are completely filled with sand.
