- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and then click "All Programs." Select "Outlook Express" from the displayed menu. The Outlook Express application will launch.
- 2). Click on the Outlook Express Tools button on the Outlook Express toolbar and then click "Accounts" from the displayed menu. The Outlook Express "Accounts" window will open.
- 3). Click the "Mail" tab in the Outlook Express "Accounts" window. Click your email account from the displayed menu and then click "OK." The "Properties" window for the email account will open.
- 4). Click the "Servers" tab on the email account Properties window to display the outgoing and incoming email servers and protocols.
- 5). Select the outgoing email protocol by specifying the protocol next to "My incoming mail server is" under "Server Information."
- 6). Select the outgoing email protocol by specifying the server name (provided by your Internet Service Provider) next to the "Outgoing mail server" box in the Servers window. The type of outgoing mail server will be recognized by Outlook Express and the protocol will be set based on the protocol used by the server.
- 7). Click "OK" in the Servers window to save the changes made to the email protocol. Click "Close" on the Outlook Express "Accounts" window. Now, when using Outlook Express, email will be sent and received based on the protocols assigned by you and the mail servers you use.
