Certification

• Businesses that sell alcoholic beverages are not required to have alcohol-related certification in Texas, but TABC certification is beneficial for both the owners and employees. TABC certification provides state agencies with proof that an employee of a business selling alcohol is trained and educated in alcohol awareness. Certified individuals learn to identify and prevent the sale of alcohol to minors, intoxicated individuals and non-members of a private club.
  
  

Courses

• The TABC certifies schools and independent training centers that offer alcohol education classes. Completion of the courses results in TABC certification.

Verification

• The owners and managers of businesses selling alcohol to the public should verify that employees have valid TABC certification and not counterfeit certificates. Creating a counterfeit certificate is a felony offense. To verify that an individual is TABC certified, visit the TABC's Certificate Inquiry web page and enter the employee's social security number and date of birth.
