- The machine must be put together in a specific order or it will not work properly. If you put your machine together and it will not turn on, you have put something together wrong. You must put everything together correctly, because otherwise the machine may become damaged.
If you have a Rainbow shampooer, you may have noticed that there is a second hose included. This is because the hose that goes with the shampooer is safe to use with water. You can tell the difference between the two hoses, because the shampooer hose does not have a plug. The plugless hose is the one that should be used with the shampooer. - Once you have figured out which hose is the correct hose to use with the machine, you'll want to pull the machine apart. Remove the water basin and the electric hose. Normally you would fill the water basin up with water, but in this case you will leave it empty (this is where the dirty water will go that you are sucking out of your carpet and upholstery). Fill the white-colored shampooer basin all the way up with water and replace the cap. Set this basin in the black wheeled base of the Rainbow vacuum cleaner. Put the empty clear basin on top of the white-colored basin, so that everything lines. Snap the vacuum on top of that. Next, attach the shampooer hose and make sure all of the connections are hooked up securely.
At this point you can check to see if everything is put together correctly by plugging the machine in and turning it to the "On" position. If the machine does not turn on, you either do not have something snapped all the way in or you have put it together out of order. If everything was done correctly, the machine should fire up. - The shampooer should have come with a highly concentrated soap. You'll notice that there is a small plastic container to put the soap in. You can use other soaps with this machine, but Rainbow guarantees that it's soap works exceptionally well.
Note that there are two positions on the handle of the machine. One picture shows bubbles and one shows that there are no bubbles. The bubbles signify using soap. If you don't want to use soap and only spray water out (to saturate an area without wasting a lot of soap), turn the control to the bubble-free picture. Whenever you want to squeeze water and/or soap out, hold in the lever on the handle. If you simply want to suck the water out of the section you just saturated, run the shampooer over the area (slowly) without holding in the lever. - The dirty water that you suck up from the area that you are cleaning will go into the basin that you normally fill up with water to use the vacuum. It's important to pull the vacuum and shampooer apart when you are done, empty the clear basin into the toilet and rinse it out. You may run the basin through the dishwasher, but avoid using harsh soaps or other cleaners on it. You'll most likely want to empty out the fresh water from the white-colored basin and put any remaining soap back into the original bottle so that it does not leak out.
