- 1). Place wheel blocks behind the rear tires. Break loose the lugs on the front wheel that needs to be removed to access the coil spring using the 1/2-inch ratchet wrench and the appropriate-sized socket. Place the hydraulic lift under the vehicle and raise it. Support the vehicle securely on jack stands and remove the wheel.
- 2). Loosen and remove the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm using the appropriate-sized socket and the ratchet wrench. Remove the mounting bolts for the shock absorber and then remove it.
- 3). Use a internal spring compression tool to latch and compress the spring enough to relieve all of the tension applied to the spring seats. Attempt to wiggle the spring; if it cannot be moved, continue to compress. Remove the bolt from the lower control arm ball joint and pull it away from the steering knuckle.
- 4). Pull down on the lower control arm; this may require tremendous force. Pull and slide the spring from the bottom of the control arm. Slowly decompress the spring from the compression tool if the coil spring is to be replaced.
