- 1). Remove the seed, or pit, from a mature, ripe peach. Remove all of the fruit flesh from the seed by eating it, and then scrubbing it with a rough-sided sponge. Allow the pit to dry.
- 2). Soak the seed in water for several hours. Remove from the water after a few hours, and then wipe dry and allow to dry.
- 3). Fill a coffee can or similar container with equal amounts of peat moss and sand. Stir the mixture to combine thoroughly.
- 4). Dig out a small hole several inches deep in the peat moss and sand mixture. Place the peach seed into the hole, and cover with soil.
- 5). Place the container in the refrigerator. Set the temperature on your refrigerator between 33 degrees F, and 41 degrees F. Germination should typically take 98 to 105 days.
- 6). Dig out the seed from the soil after 90 days to check for signs of germination. If there are no signs of the root penetrating the hull, place the seed back into the soil, cover with soil, and place it back into the refrigerator.
- 7). Check on the seed germination every two days. Once the root has sprouted and extends 1/2-inch or more from the seed, you can place the seed in soil in your garden.
- 8). Dig a hole 2 inches deep in your garden. Place the germinating seed into the hole, root side up, and lightly cover with soil.
