- 1). Determine what type of hair you have. If your hair is dry and you have an itchy scalp, you'll need a moisturizing shampoo. If your hair gets greasy quickly, you will need a formula which cleanses hair of residue and controls greasiness. However, if you have an itchy scalp and notice white flakes, you might be dealing with dandruff. The best type of shampoo for you would be one that treats dandruff. Choose a shampoo for color treated hair if you dye your hair and want to maintain the color.
- 2). Choose the Pert Plus formula that is right for you. There are a total of 9 different Pert Plus shampoos with added conditioner.
For normal hair, choose Medium or Fresh. Medium is ideal for normal hair, while Fresh contains menthol which refreshes hair.
For oily or fine hair, choose Fine or Extra Body. The Fine formula lightly conditions and add fullness, while the Extra Body adds body and volume with ingredients such as eucalyptus and rosemary.
For dry hair, choose Deep, which deeply conditions dry or damaged hair.
For dandruff-prone hair, choose Dandruff Control or Dandruff Plus. Dandruff Control deals with itching and flaking that is caused by dandruff, while Dandruff Plus controls dandruff, making hair healthier with ingredients such as tea tree oil and wild mint.
For color-treated hair, choose Color Care. This formula contains lavender and aloe vera, which moisturize and protect color-treated hair or hair damaged from such treatments. All of these shampoos for both men and women are shampoo plus conditioner formulas. - 3). Choose among four formulas which are designed especially for men. They are: 3-in-1 for hair and skin which conditions both the body and hair; Thickening, which doesn't weigh hair down; Deep Cleansing, which clarifies by removing build-up and residue, and Daily Dandruff, which contains pyrithione zinc and helps control dandruff. These shampoos for men contain shampoo plus conditioner. The 3-in-1 line is a shampoo plus conditioner and body wash formula.
- 4). Think about pH balance when choosing a Pert Plus formula. Potential hydrogen, or pH, determines the acidity in a substance. The pH of a shampoo, which is usually between 4 and 9, should be close to the pH of hair, which is 4.5 to 5.5. All Pert Plus shampoos have pH levels of 5.4 to 6.4, except the Deep formula and the Deep Cleansing formula, which feature pH levels of 4.9 to 6.4, and 6.5 to 7.5, respectively.
