How to Make Silk Flower Arrangements in Baskets

    • 1). Cut a block of dry floral foam with a serrated knife to fit into the bottom of your basket. The foam should rise 1 inch above the sides of the basket.

    • 2). Apply several strips of hot glue to the bottom of the foam block and press it into the bottom of the basket.

    • 3). Place three to four long, thick silk greenery sprigs into the foam to outline the basic shape you want for your arrangement. If you want the arrangement to be taller in the center, for example, push the side pieces of greenery into the foam at an angle with the center sprigs standing straight and tall.

    • 4). Place the silk flowers that you want to make up your arrangement into the floral foam surrounding the sprigs of greenery. Place them closer to the outside edges of the floral foam so they remain visible in the finished arrangement. Choose your colors according to the season, occasion or holiday. Simple and elegant white calla lilies can stand alone as an understated bridal arrangement or to add class to a formal dining room. Choose bright yellow, pink and purple colored flowers for spring. Deep oranges, reds and rich gold colors work perfectly for fall. Use traditional poinsettias for Christmas baskets or mums surrounded by fall leaves for Thanksgiving. Otherwise, choose your flowers according to the colors in the room you are decorating.

    • 5). Fill in the shape of your arrangement by adding more sprigs of greenery, turning the basket as you add more sprigs to completely cover the foam and flesh out the thinner areas of the arrangement.
