Vacuum indoor areas where ants have been seen moving about. Clean carpet and flooring, alike, to remove crumbs and food particles that can attract ants, causing them to develop scent trails into your home. - 2). Wash indoor surfaces, such as flooring, inside cabinets, appliances and countertops by mixing in a bucket all-purpose cleaner and a gallon of hot water. Wipe the surfaces down with a cloth dampened with the cleaning mixture to remove juices and spills. Keeping the house clean removes reasons for ants to enter.
- 3). Place 2-inch strips of masking tape down on outdoor surfaces, such as the patio, driveway and other paved areas. Stick tape pieces on indoor areas, such as windowsills and along baseboards where ants continue to come in, even after vacuuming and washing. Spoon a few drops of honey onto each tape piece to attract ants. Observe where they come from and return to so you can determine where the scent trails are.
- 4). Position commercial ant bait stations along known ant trails to kill the ants. Mix 2 tbsp. dishwashing detergent with a gallon of hot water. Sponge outdoor scent trails with the soap solution to remove the trail. Hose off the areas to remove the soap.
