- 1). Multiply your previous GPA by the number of credit hours you had already taken to find the number of grade points already earned. For example, if you had already taken 50 credit hours and had a 3.6 GPA, multiply 50 by 3.6 to get 180 grade points already earned.
- 2). Calculate the number of grade points earned in each of your new classes by multiplying the numerical equivalent of the letter grade by the credit hours earned from the class. For example, a B in a two-credit course would translate to six grade points because a B equals three points and multiplying three by two equals six.
- 3). Add the grade points earned for the current term to the number of previously earned grade points. For this example, if you earned 36 credits in the new term, add 36 to 180 to get a total of 216 grade points earned.
- 4). Add the credit hours taken in the new term to the previous credit hours taken to find the new total credit hours. In this example, if you took 12 credits in the new term, add 12 to 50 to get 62.
- 5). Divide the new total grade points by the new total credits to find your new GPA. In this example, divide 216 by 62 to find the new GPA equals 3.48.
