- 1). Select the quality of paper you want to use for your invitation. You can find burgundy varieties at your local craft store, or you can dye the paper to the desired shade. To dye the paper, purchase paper dye from a craft store and mix it with a basin of water until the shade of burgundy is exactly the hue you want. Rest the paper, completely opened, in the dye mixture, and submerge it so the color will saturate the paper. Take the paper out of the water mixture and place it on paper towels to dry. For a lighter impression of burgundy on your wedding invitations, you can use raspberry tea bags—mix the tea bags with water and steep the mixture to achieve a deep red color, then submerge the paper into the water and remove it to dry.
- 2). Add more burgundy accents once the paper has dried. Fold the paper in the desired shape, and use a hot glue gun to attach thin strips of burgundy ribbon or lace to the top of the invitation. You can also purchase small burgundy "pearls" from a craft store. Glue the pearls along the lace, or use a pearl to accent the middle of a bow you've tied with the burgundy ribbon. Glue a strip of ribbon in the center fold of the invitation for an antique book feel, and so that guests will see yet another burgundy accent when they open the invitation.
- 3). Use a calligraphy pen with burgundy ink to write on the invitations if the paper only has a light coating of burgundy color. Decorate the edges of the invitation with your favorite quotes or passages about love in small print. Be sure to write clearly, so that guests can clearly see where the wedding will take place, as well as the names of the bride and groom. Select burgundy envelopes from a craft or stationery store. Use the same bows and pearl or lace designs to decorate the envelopes so that they will match the invitations.
