Adding a deck to your double-wide mobile home creates a designated area to barbecue or enjoy a nice cold drink on a hot summer day, but it may also create extra storage. Create storage on your deck in a multitude of areas including the deck floor and under the deck. - Build built-in bench seats on your deck. Built-in bench seats allow you to create ample seating for your family and friends. They also give you a small area for storage as most mobile homes lack ample storage room. Utilize the bench seats to hold deck decorations, as well as small outdoor items in the storage compartment beneath the seat. Paint or stain the bench seats to match the stain on your deck or the color of your mobile home's siding.
- Create built-in flower boxes on your deck. Take into account the size of the deck when planning the size of the flower boxes. Paint the flower boxes to accent your mobile home's siding color. Planting herbs in the built-in flower boxes allows you have a small deck garden. This works well if your mobile home is in a mobile home park and you cannot have a traditional garden.
- When building your deck, install the decking board at a diagonal angle instead of a vertical angle. This creates a decorative pattern on your deck. If laying the entire deck's decking board at an angle is too large of a project, consider laying enough of the decking board at an angle to create a "welcome mat."
- Many mobile home owners' complain about the lack of storage in a mobile home. To ease some of this, plan built-in storage boxes on the deck. This allows you to store unused items, provides extra storage space and seating. Creating seat cushions for the top of your storage box out of outdoor fabric and padding adds a decorative touch to your built-in storage box.
- Utilize the ground underneath your deck on your double-wide mobile home as storage. Place a plastic barrier on the ground to protect your items and enclose the bottom of the deck with wood. Measure each side of the open underside of the deck and purchase wood in the correct sizes. Screw the wood onto the deck bottom to enclose. Attach a hinge to one of the pieces of wood to create a "door" for the enclosed storage area under your deck.
