- Turn a fish bowl into a cookie or candy jar by painting different patterns, shapes or words, such as "Cookie" or "Candy" on the exterior of the bowl with glass paint. Further embellish the bowl by gluing on faux gemstones, beads, buttons or sequins. Fill it with cookies or candies and set it out on a kitchen counter, giving family members and visitors easy access to some tasty treats.
- Place a pillar candle in the center of the bowl and fill it with sand, shells, beach glass or pebbles -- just enough to cover the base of the candle. Clip a few pieces of decorative ribbon or raffia and tie them around the lip of the bowl. Place the candle holder on a mantle, on a ledge or on a table to cast an eye-catching glow in your home.
- Cover the bottom of the bowl with colorful pebbles, glass beads, sea glass, shells or sand and then fill the bowl with water. Clip the blooms off of a few chosen flowers; roses, Gerbera daisies or orchids, for example and float them in the water. If you'd like to add further interest to the decorative centerpiece, place a floating candle in the bowl and light it. Set the completed fish bowl centerpiece in the middle of a table and surround it with tea lights.
- Decorate your home with a snowman head made from a fish bowl during the holiday and winter season. Paint the entire exterior of the bowl with white glass paint and allow it to dry. Once the white paint is dry, use black glass paint to create circles that resemble charcoal pieces for the eyes and mouth of the snowman. Make a carrot nose with orange glass paint between the eyes and the mouth of the face. If you'd like, you can even paint a pipe hanging out of the mouth of the character. Complete the craft by topping it with a black top hat.
