- In some cases, you can bypass any difficulty of curved windows by using regular curtain rods and simply hanging your draperies higher. When the drapes are open, you will still see the curved effect of the window; however, when you close them, expect the details to be obscured. This approach works best if you don't have high ceilings and your window isn't too dramatically arched. You'll need to hang the curtain rod at least as high as the height of the curved window, at its apex.
- If you have a very high Palladian window, you may run a straight curtain rod below the rounded half. When the curtain is open, you'll see the entire window; when it's drawn shut, you'll still see the exposed half-circle at the top. This option works best if you have high ceilings. If you are concerned about visibility into your home, use an opaque or translucent window treatment, such as cellular blinds, to permanently cover the rounded top of your window. A translucent option will let in light but will provide privacy.
- When you use blinds to cut out visibility, you can simply rely on drapes or curtains as accents for softening a room. Drape a swag curtain over a curved curtain rod to draw the eye toward the rounded top of the window. For a subtle accent, use a color that's similar to your walls. With a curved window, your goal is to add an understated soft element, not to draw particular attention to the curtains. The unusual window shape is already eye-catching enough.
- In some cases, you can use nontraditional approaches to the Palladian window treatment. For example, if you have a row of windows with rounded tops in your kitchen or an informal dining room, cafe curtains provide some privacy and leave you plenty of light while adding a cozy element to the room. If you can find a curved curtain rod to fit your window, you can also produce a matching, rounded window treatment. But if you still want an element that you open and close, you'll need to add a shade or blinds underneath the drapes.
