- 1). Poke new notches in a leather band with a pin punch set. A pin punch set is specially sized to create the appropriate sized notches in your watch. Most leather band watches, after extended use, will have their notches stretch out. This makes it harder for the watch latch to lock in place. A pin punch set will allow you to make a new notch to use.
- 2). Remove leather and steel bands with a watch screwdriver set. These sets have screwdrivers designed to remove the extremely small screws that are used in your Seiko watch. You can either order a new band from Seiko or purchase a generic band as a replacement. The only requirement is to replace the old band with one of the exact same size. A properly fitting band will ensure all the screws can be fastened correctly when you start the replacement process. Some metal bands use pins to fasten everything together. In this situation, you'll need a watch pin set to remove the band and replace.
- 3). Apply leather cleaner and conditioner to a leather strap that is still functional but has a worn look to it. Over time, leather can dry out and become brittle. Leather cleaner will help you remove all the dirt and other filth that has been collecting on the band over the years. Leather conditioner will hydrate the leather and rejuvenate some of the elasticity it has lost. This will prevent further damage caused to the band that occurs through brittleness.
